Donald Trump has announced that he plans to send National Guard troops to Chicago to combat crime but has refused to specify the exact deployment dates.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson had stated that the police would not cooperate with National Guard troops or federal agents if Trump deploys them in the city.

Trump noted that he "would like to receive calls from governors and mayors who say they need help."

The governor of Illinois had previously stated that the president does not have the legal authority to deploy troops in his state unless the governor has requested it.

As a reminder, the US president has previously made statements about the rising number of murders in Chicago and declared Chicago one of the most dangerous cities.

Therefore, many experts do not rule out that Trump will send National Guard troops to Chicago right after Washington.
