Zakharova: Moscow "Closely Monitoring" Events in Gyumri

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, has stated that Moscow is closely monitoring the development of the situation in Gyumri. She justifies the emphasized attention by the fact that it is the second largest city in Armenia, where the Russian 102nd military base and the Russian Consulate General are located. Zakharova recalled that the city authorities of Gyumri are developing active cooperation with various regions of the Federation.

The "Hill of Honor" memorial complex, dedicated to the Russian officers who died during the Russo-Turkish wars, is also located in Gyumri. The diplomat stressed that in August, the Council of Heads of State of the CIS awarded Gyumri the honorary title of "City of Labor Glory of 1941–1945."
