Armenia to Azerbaijan: Constitutional Reform Is Our Internal Affair

The President of Azerbaijan spoke about the peace agreement with Armenia, noting that Yerevan and Baku are closer than ever to signing it. At the same time, in the context of initialing the agreement, he continued to present the amendment of the Armenian Constitution and the dissolution of the Minsk Group as a precondition. "Armenpress" asked the RA Prime Minister's spokesperson if the initialing of the agreement at this stage is an acceptable option for the Armenian side.
"The RA Prime Minister has also stated that Armenia and Azerbaijan are very close to signing the Peace Agreement. As for the dissolution of the Minsk Group mechanisms and the possible initialing of the Peace Agreement, this is a comprehensible agenda for the RA, and active discussions are now underway on the conditions under which it can happen. As for the issue related to the Constitution, the RA Prime Minister has repeatedly stated that if the RA Constitutional Court declares the Peace Agreement unconstitutional after its signing, the Prime Minister himself will initiate constitutional changes in the RA," noted Baghdasaryan, adding that Prime Minister Pashinyan started discussions on the need for a new RA Constitution back in 2018-2020, and now that issue is in the stage of active institutional discussion.
"But this is an internal agenda item for the RA and has nothing to do with the negotiations with Azerbaijan," added Nazeli Baghdasaryan.
