Xi to Guterres: China Will Always Be a Reliable UN Partner

China will always be a reliable partner of the UN. This was stated by PRC President Xi Jinping on August 30 during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in the port city of Tianjin, reports the Xinhua agency.

Xi Jinping noted that China is ready to deepen cooperation with the UN, support the organization's central role in international relations, and jointly bear responsibility for maintaining world peace, promoting development, and prosperity. Guterres arrived in Tianjin to participate in the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.

Xi Jinping called for restoring the authority and vitality of the UN in the new conditions. According to him, the world is undergoing unprecedented changes in the last hundred years, and China is providing stability and predictability by continuing to offer new opportunities through its development.

António Guterres noted that multilateralism, international law, and the authority of the UN are currently facing serious challenges, and the international governance system is in dire need of reform. He emphasized that now is the right time to return to the original aspirations and values of the UN's founding.

Guterres called China a pillar in the defense of multilateralism and assured that the UN is ready to strengthen cooperation with the PRC.
