Putin Said He Wants War to End, US Envoy Whitcoff Claims

"I think he has made a good-faith effort to enter into the process. He certainly did so at the Alaska summit, but the conflict is very complex," Whitcoff responded to Fox News.

Asked if Putin told him he wanted an end to the war, the special envoy replied: "Absolutely. There is a peace proposal on the table. He wants... He certainly said so, and I hope he will keep his word."

The host also asked why the US couldn't impose sanctions on Russia if it withdraws from the peace process to bring it back to the negotiating table, to which Whitcoff said:

"That's an assessment the President has to make, and he has enough leverage if he decides to do that."
