Caucasus Is Iran's Historical Security Zone: Velayati

The Caucasus has historically served as a strategic security buffer for Iran, Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader, wrote on his X microblog.

The high-ranking Tehran representative emphasized that the Caucasus fulfilled this role thousands of years ago, since the time of the Persian king Cyrus the Great of the Achaemenid dynasty. The latter built fortifications in the Caucasus to prevent the invasion of wild tribes, Velayati noted.
