Varazdat Lalayan Crowned World Weightlifting Champion

Vice-champion of the Paris Olympic Games, now two-time world champion, and two-time European champion Varazdat Lalayan was awarded three gold medals. At the World Weightlifting Championships that concluded in Førde, Norway, Lalayan had no equal in the +110 kg weight category. In the total, the representative of Armenia registered a result of 461 kg (211+250).

In honor of Varazdat Lalayan, the anthem of Armenia was played in the Førde hall, and the tricolor flag was raised.

The title of world vice-champion was won by Gor Minasyan, representing Bahrain. He was awarded three silver medals. In the total, Minasyan registered 447 kg (205+242).

The bronze medalist was Yonvan Son from the Republic of Korea (410 kg, 175+235).
