US Resumes Arms Shipments to Ukraine

The Trump administration has approved the first US arms aid packages for Ukraine, which could soon be delivered, resuming military support to Kyiv. This is being carried out within the framework of a new financial agreement with allies, reports Reuters, citing its sources.
This initiative uses a new mechanism developed by the US and NATO countries to supply Ukraine with weapons from US stocks. European allies are paying for it. This mechanism, known as the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), has been approved for two shipments, each valued at $500 million.
This renewed transatlantic cooperation aims to provide Ukraine with up to $10 billion worth of weapons, taking into account Kyiv's urgent needs amid ongoing Russian attacks. The stock approved for purchase by European allies includes anti-aircraft defense systems, which are crucial in the face of the recent increase in Russian drone and missile attacks.
The Trump administration's approach differs from previous actions. Under former President Joe Biden, Kyiv received a significant portion of its weapons as donations.
A Reuters source emphasized that the approved aid includes items that Ukraine has requested, such as air defense systems, missiles, and artillery, which have helped stabilize the front line. The PURL list is currently going through the Pentagon's policy department.
As a reminder, on August 4, the US and NATO announced a new support initiative for Ukraine, the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), aimed at the rapid supply of weapons from the US to Ukraine. Zelenskyy has stated that over $2 billion has already been received through the PURL program.
