US Proposes UN Resolution for International Force in Gaza

4 NOV 2025 06:06
The United States has come forward with a large-scale initiative regarding the future governance of the Gaza Strip, submitting a draft resolution to the UN Security Council for discussion, which provides for the deployment of an international contingent in the region. This is reported by Axios, citing a draft document it has obtained, which could radically change the balance of power in the region.
According to the document, it is planned to "grant the United States and other participating countries broad powers to govern the Gaza Strip and ensure security for at least two years, until the end of a 2027, with the possibility of extending the mandate." This effectively means that the security and administrative governance of the region could come under the control of an international coalition in the long term, with Washington playing a leading role.
The draft resolution defines the specific tasks of the international forces. They will be responsible for ensuring the security of Gaza's borders with Israel and Egypt, and for protecting the civilian population and humanitarian corridors. In addition, the contingent will be tasked with supporting and training new Palestinian police forces, which in the future should take over the maintenance of internal order, replacing the current power structures.
One of the most important components of the proposed mandate will be the complete demilitarization of the enclave. The international forces will be obliged to destroy military infrastructure and prevent its future restoration. This also includes the confiscation of weapons from armed groups operating in the region. This point is essentially aimed at excluding any possibility of a resumption of military operations in the Gaza Strip and at forming a new security environment.
According to sources, Washington intends to bring the document to a vote in the coming weeks. The White House's goal is to begin the transfer of international forces to the Gaza Strip as early as January. Such tight deadlines indicate that the US is seeking to accelerate the process of stabilizing the situation and to take control of the post-war settlement. If the resolution is adopted, it will become the most significant intervention in the conflict zone in recent decades, placing the future of Gaza directly under international governance.
