UN Solves Trump Escalator Mystery: Cameraman at Fault

The United Nations appears to have solved the mystery of why the escalator came to an abrupt halt on September 23, just as US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were getting on it. It turns out that the cause of the incident was most likely the president's own cameraman, who accidentally activated the safety mechanism.
According to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, an examination of the data from the escalator's central processor showed that it stopped after the built-in safety system at the top was activated. According to him, Trump's cameraman was moving backward on the escalator to film the arrival of the presidential couple. It is assumed that it was he who inadvertently activated the safety mechanism, which is designed to prevent people or objects from falling into the equipment.
Meanwhile, the White House took the incident more seriously. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed suspicion that the escalator could have been stopped deliberately and demanded an immediate investigation. "If someone at the UN deliberately stopped the escalator while the President and First Lady were climbing, they should be immediately fired and investigated," she wrote on the social network X.
Donald Trump himself, however, used the incident for humor. During his speech to world leaders, during which the teleprompter also failed, he joked: "Here are two things I got from the UN: a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter." This joke caused laughter in the hall.
As a reminder, the incident took place on September 23. The escalator at the UN stopped right at the moment when the US President and his wife stepped on the stair. Videos show how after the escalator stopped, Melania Trump, without getting confused, simply continued to walk up the stationary stairs, while President Trump looked around in surprise.
