The death toll from Typhoon Kalmaegi in the Philippines has surpassed 100. Among the victims are six members of a military helicopter crew. The Huey-type helicopter crashed in the Agusan del Sur province on the island of Mindanao while on a humanitarian aid mission. According to the military, the bodies of all crew members have been found, and an investigation is underway to determine the causes of the crash.
Heavy rains and floods caused by the disaster have led to serious destruction in the central regions of the country.
According to authorities, the hardest-hit area was Cebu province, where record rainfall in just one day caused widespread flooding. At least 76 people have died here, and dozens are considered missing. The governor of Cebu has described the situation as "unprecedented and devastating." A total of about 800,000 people have been evacuated from the disaster zone.
Rescue operations are ongoing but are hampered by bad weather conditions and destroyed infrastructure.
