Digital Driver's Licenses in Armenia Starting September 1
25 AUG 2025 14:31
From September 1, drivers will no longer be required to have their driver's license with them. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan mentioned this in an interview.
"The majority of our drivers have user accounts on the roadpolice.am website. From September 1, our regulations will come into force, so when a person identifies themselves and enters this system, they will see their digital driver's license. What will this give them in practical life? We know that we have a corresponding article in the Code of Administrative Offenses that if a driver does not have their driver's license and other documents with them, an administrative fine is incurred, which is canceled if presented within the same day.
When a digital driver's license is available, it exists, then this provision will not be applied to the person; the person will be identified in some other way, and this fine will not be applied to them," noted Ghazaryan. He also mentioned that at the suggestion of drivers, a new regulation is in effect, according to which a citizen can, for a fee, choose their preferred day to take the theoretical or practical exams for obtaining a driver's license out of turn.
To recall, currently, if a person fails the theoretical or practical exams for the first time, they can retake them after seven days, and in the case of a second and each subsequent failure, after 30 days. "Now we have set certain state duty limits, upon payment of which a person can take these exams at an earlier date."
