The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Numan Kurtulmuş, has called for the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan to be made a more stable and institutional platform. He made this statement during a trilateral meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of the three countries.
"We need to raise our trilateral mechanism to a more stable and institutional level. Considering the challenges our countries have recently faced at both regional and international levels, I am convinced that close cooperation and coordination of efforts are inevitable for our parliaments," Kurtulmuş stated.
According to him, the threats of terrorism, illegal migration, and drug trafficking emanating from Afghanistan pose a serious danger to regional security. The Turkish speaker emphasized that to prevent them, it is necessary to deepen cooperation in the military, defense, and military-industrial sectors.
Referring to the situation in the South Caucasus, Kurtulmuş noted that the progress in the peace negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia opens new opportunities for the strengthening of the so-called "Zangezur corridor" and the development of the "Middle Corridor." In this context, he singled out the initiative to integrate Iraq's "Development Road" project with the "Middle Corridor" through Turkey, which, according to him, will allow for closer economic integration from Pakistan to Europe.
In his speech, the head of the Turkish parliament also stressed the importance of supporting stabilization in Syria and the need to continue international efforts aimed at the creation of a Palestinian state. Taking all this into account, the trilateral format is seen not only as a political alliance but also as a strategic project aimed at achieving common goals in the fields of security, economy, and logistics.
