Turkey Condemns Netanyahu's Armenian Genocide Statement

Benjamin Netanyahu's statement regarding the events of 1915 is an attempt to exploit the tragedies of the past for political purposes. This is stated in a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.
"Netanyahu, who is on trial for his role in the genocide committed against the Palestinian people, is trying to hide the crimes committed by him and his government. We condemn and reject this statement, which is incompatible with historical and legal facts," the statement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry says in particular.
As a reminder, on August 26, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced for the first time that he recognizes the genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire against the Armenians, Assyrians, and Greeks at the beginning of the 20th century.
When asked by podcaster Patrick Bet-David why Israel does not recognize the Armenian Genocide, Netanyahu replied: "I think we do. The Knesset has adopted a resolution on it," although it has never become law. When asked why no Israeli prime minister has recognized the genocide until now, Netanyahu replied: "I just did. There you go."
