Trump-Xi Deal: US to Immediately Lower Tariffs on China
30 OCT 2025 06:58
US President Donald Trump rated the nearly 1 hour and 40-minute negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping a "12" on a 10-point scale. The meeting exceeded the time previously scheduled in Trump's agenda. Speaking to reporters on the plane, Trump announced that the US would immediately reduce tariffs on all Chinese goods.
In response, China has committed to stopping the export of fentanyl drug components to the US. Additionally, Beijing will resume imports of American soy and remove barriers to the export of rare earth metals. "The rare metals issue is resolved, and that's for the whole world. There is no longer a ban from China," Trump emphasized.
The situation in Ukraine was also discussed during the talks. "Ukraine: we will work together," Trump said, adding: "We agreed that the parties have clashed, and sometimes, you have to think about whether you shouldn't let them fight. But we will work together on the issue of Ukraine." Meanwhile, the issue of Taiwan, according to Trump, was not discussed.
He also announced that he plans to visit China in April 2026. It is noteworthy that just before the negotiations, Trump had posted on his social network Truth Social about the "immediate" resumption of US nuclear tests, directly mentioning China. And after the "excellent" meeting, the leaders of the US and China did not issue a joint statement.
