Trump Threatens EU Over €2.95B Google Fine
6 SEP 2025 08:26
In a post on his Truth Social site, Trump declared that the €2.95 billion fine is "insanity" and "discrimination," then told reporters that he "intends to talk" with Brussels. Trump also wrote that he would "be forced" to launch a Section 301 investigation to "overturn the unfair fines that have been imposed on American taxpayer-supported companies."
Under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, the United States can impose fines on foreign states whose actions are deemed "unreasonable" or "unacceptable" or burden American trade.
Let's recall that the EU Commission announced that during the investigation, it was found that Google "abuses its power" by prioritizing its own advertising technology services to the detriment of competitors, online advertisers, and publishers.
This is already the fourth time that Brussels has imposed a multi-billion euro fine on Google within the framework of the antitrust case that has been ongoing since 2017.
