Trump Thanks Modi for Ukraine Help Amid Tariff Tensions

"Just had a wonderful phone call with my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wished him a happy birthday. He is doing a tremendous job. Narendra, thank you for your help in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine," wrote the US President on Truth Social.

Let us recall that Trump has doubled tariffs on Indian goods, up to 50%. The reason is that India continues to buy Russian oil, thus financing the war against Ukraine.

Trump's tariffs were a blow to India, which was considered the largest US pillar in the region, and also personally to Indian Prime Minister Modi, who prided himself on his warm personal relationship with Trump.

Also due to these developments, a certain warming of India-Russia relations has been observed recently. India participates in various events initiated by Russia, including those of a military nature. The latest example was the participation of Indian representatives in the "West-2025" military exercises.
