Trump Invites Zelenskyy to Washington for War Talks

After his role in establishing a ceasefire in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump is once again turning his attention to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. He has officially invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Washington for a high-level meeting to discuss ways to increase pressure on Russia and end the war, which has been ongoing for a third year.
The invitation, which could be a turning point in resolving the conflict, follows Trump's recent statements that he can end the war. According to information circulating in the media, Trump's plan involves putting pressure on Ukraine to make certain territorial concessions, specifically leaving Crimea and the border regions of Donbas to Russia. This approach sharply contradicts the policy of the previous administration, which focused on deterring Russian aggression and providing military aid to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy, in turn, has confirmed the invitation and expressed hope that the meeting will contribute to establishing peace for Ukraine as well. "We are working to ensure that the day of peace also comes for Ukraine," he noted. Key topics of the visit will include the provision of air defense systems and long-range weapons, which Kyiv views as an important tool for pressuring Russia. Zelenskyy has stated that he seeks to obtain American "Tomahawk" cruise missiles, which can hit targets deep within Russia, promising that they will be used exclusively against military targets.
Trump's and Zelenskyy's relations have not always been smooth. However, they have warmed in recent months as Trump has become disappointed with Putin's actions, particularly the attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine. Recently, Trump has also changed his rhetoric, stating that Ukraine can win the war and regain all its territories.
