Trump in South Korea: Meetings with Xi, Then Kim on the Horizon

During his official visit to South Korea, US President Donald Trump made a number of important statements, outlining the priorities of his administration in the fields of international politics and world trade. In a conversation with journalists, he touched upon the tense relations with China, the situation around North Korea, the Middle East issue, and also once again mentioned his role in the settlement of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, presenting it as one of the significant achievements of his foreign policy.
One of the key topics of the visit was the prospect of trade negotiations with China. Trump announced that he is preparing to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and expects that this meeting will yield positive results. He specifically noted that he plans to reduce the additional tariffs imposed on Chinese imports within the framework of the fight against fentanyl smuggling. "I think we will have a very good result for our country and, in fact, for the whole world," Trump told reporters, emphasizing his optimism about the upcoming negotiations. This step can be seen as an attempt to ease tensions and start a more constructive dialogue between the two economic superpowers.
Another important direction was the North Korea issue, especially against the backdrop of recent missile tests carried out by Pyongyang. Despite this, Trump adopted a restrained and calm position. He noted that he intends to deal with the issue of relations with the DPRK, but at present his attention is focused on resolving problems with China. At the same time, the president expressed confidence that "at some point" he will again meet with the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un. "I have always had a good relationship with him. I will meet him at some point," he said, adding that it could happen in the not-so-distant future.
In his speech, Trump also touched upon the settlement process in the Middle East, stating that it is "entering the second phase." However, he did not elaborate on what specific developments are expected and what this new phase entails, leaving wide room for interpretation.
In addition to current international issues, Trump did not bypass the economic successes of his presidency. He proudly noted that in just nine months of his second presidential term, the US has managed to attract $18 trillion in investment. He also predicted that by the end of 2025, this figure could reach an impressive $22 trillion. He presented these numbers as evidence of the effectiveness of his economic policy, emphasizing that a strong economy allows the United States to act from a more confident position on the world stage.
