At a White House meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Donald Trump stated that the prince "knew nothing" about the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. This statement directly contradicts the 2021 assessment of the US intelligence community, according to which the order for the murder was given by Mohammed bin Salman himself. Senator
Tim Kaine described Trump's position as "disgusting," noting that it ignores the conclusions of the American special services.
Instead, some experts are taking a more practical approach to the situation. The fact is that during his visit to the United States, the Saudi Crown Prince announced that he intends to increase his country's investments in the US from the previously planned $600 billion to $1 trillion. They consider this a sufficient basis for Mohammed bin Salman to receive Trump's full favor.
At the same time, several congressmen from the Democratic Party, who previously served in the army and intelligence, have addressed US military personnel with a video message, calling on them to "refuse the illegal orders of the administration." Although no specific orders were mentioned, this warning indicates concerns about possible pressure on the security forces.
The US House of Representatives voted almost unanimously (427 in favor, 1 against) for a bill that obliges the Department of Justice to publish the materials of the case of financier Jeffrey Epstein. Only Republican Clay Higgins voted against. The Senate approved the document without a formal vote, and Trump has promised to sign it, although he has reason to be concerned that topics related to him may also be circulated.
