Search operations continue in Mexico. Torrential rains and floods caused by Tropical Storm "John" have claimed the lives of at least 64 people in the country's southern state of Guerrero, with another 65 people considered missing. This was reported by local authorities.
The famous resort city of Acapulco has been hit hardest by the disaster, with 39 deaths recorded. Rescue operations are ongoing, but they are hampered by bad weather conditions and impassable roads in mountainous areas. Dozens of communities are isolated from the outside world.
Many houses, bridges, and roads have been damaged by the floods and landslides. Authorities have evacuated thousands of people, placing them in temporary shelters. This disaster is one of the most horrific in Guerrero state in recent decades. The number of dead and missing is expected to rise as rescuers continue their searches in isolated areas.
