Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, speaking about the unblocking of regional infrastructure, avoided giving specific deadlines for the launch of the Armenian section of the "TRIPP" project, but stressed that technical discussions are in an active phase. During the "Peace Quiz: A Conversation with the RA Foreign Minister" conference organized by the "Orbeli" analytical center, a representative of an Azerbaijani media outlet asked when the Armenian section of the road would be ready, noting that Azerbaijan plans to open the Kars-Nakhichevan and other sections on its territory by 2028.
In response, Minister Mirzoyan stated that he finds it difficult to talk about deadlines, but added that the process is ongoing. "Literally just today we are discussing technical issues with the American side," he said, detailing that all aspects are being discussed, from documents to the installation of electronic scanners.
Mirzoyan reaffirmed that Yerevan is deeply interested in the prompt launch of the project, emphasizing the importance of mutual interests. "If the connection with Nakhichevan is important for you, then unblocking is important for us," he noted. In this context, the minister positively assessed the fact that Baku has lifted the transit blockade for Armenia, calling it an "important tangible step." In turn, Armenia has expressed its readiness to ensure transit from Turkey to Azerbaijan.
The minister particularly highlighted the opening of the Kars-Gyumri road, which, according to him, will create broad opportunities for the transit of goods from Europe to the East.
Responding to a question from an Iranian representative about the possible lease terms of the road, Ararat Mirzoyan clarified that various options are being considered, including a 99-year lease, but this is purely a matter of economic calculations, depending on the volume of investments and their payback period. "The issues are being discussed. There is no decision yet; when there is, we will publish it," he promised.
