The Economist: Russia's Offensive Failed, Losses Soared

Russia's last major offensive in Ukraine this summer has essentially yielded no results, leading to huge losses of manpower and equipment. This is according to the British publication The Economist.
According to the publication's estimates, from the beginning of the full-scale invasion until January of this year, the losses of Russian troops (killed and wounded) amounted to between 640,000 and 877,000 people, of which 137,000-228,000 were killed. However, by October 13, these losses had increased by almost 60%, reaching between 984,000 and 1,438,000, including 190,000-480,000 killed.
The Economist emphasizes that Russia's huge losses have not led to commensurate territorial gains. Since the front line stabilized in October 2022, it has barely changed, and no major city has changed hands.
The publication also makes a forecast based on the pace of the last 30 days. According to it, the capture of the remaining parts of the four regions claimed by Russia—Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia—will not happen before June 2030. And to capture all of Ukraine, Russia would need another 103 years.
