The first President of the Republic of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, received the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Armenia, Sergey Kopyrkin, at his residence.
During the conversation, which lasted more than an hour, reference was made, in particular, to the current state of Armenian-Russian relations and the imperative of establishing long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus region.
"The first president deemed it necessary to emphasize that Russia's presence in the Transcaucasus is a vital necessity and a reality confirmed by history. Armenia's honest and reliable friends are Russia, Iran, Georgia, France, Greece, and in the near future, China and India," the statement said.
