Tbilisi Court Sentences Pro-European Activists to Prison

Tbilisi City Court Judge Tamar Mchedlishvili has issued a verdict against participants in pro-European rallies who were accused of "group violence."
Their charges were reclassified: all were found guilty under Article 226 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Georgia, "Organization of or active participation in group actions that violate public order."
They were sentenced to 2 and 2.5 years of imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Tbilisi City Court Judge Jvebe Nachkebia found Russian citizen Anton Chechin guilty of drug possession and sentenced him to 8 years and 6 months in prison.
Chechin is a Russian citizen, an activist who participated in anti-war and pro-European rallies in Georgia. According to the defense, drugs were planted on him in December 2024 after he regularly participated in protests against the policies of the "Georgian Dream."
