Syrian President on 9/11: "I Was Only 19"

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, in an interview with an American media outlet, addressed the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, stating that it is inappropriate to ask him questions on that topic. He emphasized that at the time of the events, he was very young and had no leverage.

"I was only 19 years old, very young. I had no authority to make decisions at that time," he noted.

Al-Sharaa added that "Al-Qaeda" was not represented in his environment. "So, you are not asking the right person about this topic," said the Syrian leader.

In his speech, he also touched upon the civilians killed as a result of the war, noting: "We mourn for every civilian killed and know that people suffer from war."
