Slovakia Eyes Anti-Ukraine Alliance with Hungary, Czechia

Slovakia is positive about the idea of creating an anti-Ukrainian coalition together with Hungary and the Czech Republic. This was announced by Ľuboš Blaha, the deputy head of Slovakia's ruling "Smer" party, noting that the governments of the three countries are aware of the dangers of Brussels' policy towards Moscow.
According to him, "joint actions of forces in Europe that have still preserved common sense are not only possible but also probable."
Earlier, Politico, citing Balázs Orbán, the chief political adviser to the Hungarian Prime Minister, reported that Hungary wants to join forces with the Czech Republic and Slovakia to create a "skeptical" alliance towards Ukraine within the European Union.
According to Balázs Orbán, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán hopes to unite with Andrej Babiš, who recently won the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic, as well as with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. The goal is to coordinate positions before meetings of EU leaders, including holding preliminary consultations before summits.
As Politico writes, the creation of such an alliance could significantly hinder the EU's efforts to finance military aid to Ukraine. However, the publication notes that there is still a long way to go to create a strong alliance.
Balázs Orbán recalled that a similar alliance "worked very well" during the migration crisis. This refers to the "Visegrád Four" (V4), which was created in February 1991. The group included Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland. This format allowed the countries of Central Europe to present a united position, counterbalancing Brussels' policy. Now, it seems, Budapest is trying to revive this model, replacing Poland with new allies to show a common approach on the issue of Ukraine.
