Within the framework of the 13th meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CIS member states, which began in Moscow on November 5, the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, held meetings that are viewed as Moscow's attempt to restore its lost positions in the region against the backdrop of progress in the peace process between Baku and Yerevan.
Before the general meeting, Shoigu held a separate meeting with his Armenian counterpart, Armen Grigoryan. During the meeting, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council emphasized that the situation in the Caucasus requires constant attention and that it is necessary to consult regularly on recent events. "It is important for us to compare watches. Everything that concerns the latest events... requires our consultations," Shoigu said.
Armen Grigoryan expressed his readiness to "share details."
Later, speaking at the general meeting of the Security Council Secretaries, Sergei Shoigu gave a more optimistic assessment. He stated that the situation in the South Caucasus region is improving. As an important factor in advancing the peace process, he highlighted the resumption of the "3+3" format. "The resumption of the work of the consultative and regional group of the 3+3 platform is important for the advancement of the peace process," Shoigu said.
The official agenda of the meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CIS countries includes such issues as the threats facing the CIS and countering the "ideological expansion" of the West.
