Sargsyan: Davit Hambardzumyan's Conviction is "Political Persecution"

The 3rd President, Serzh Sargsyan, in a conversation with journalists before his court session, addressed the detention of Davit Hambardzumyan, describing it as political persecution.

"We have issued a statement on this occasion that the judicial system is politicized, and the verdicts depend on the will of one person. It is obvious that during the entire trial, no serious evidence was presented regarding any criminal action by Davit," Sargsyan said.

He also emphasized that an unprecedentedly long sentence was applied to Hambardzumyan. "An unprecedented term has been applied under that article; naturally, that term has been applied so that amnesty would in no way affect that sanction," the 3rd President noted, suggesting that the verdict was made with such a calculation.
