Saudi Arabia Launches "King Salman's Gate" Mecca Project

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has announced the launch of the largest urban development project in Mecca's history, the "King Salman's Gate." This ambitious initiative promises to radically change the face of the Islamic world's holy city, combining modern development with the preservation of historical heritage.
The project will be implemented in the immediate vicinity of the Al-Haram Mosque, covering a huge area of 12 million square meters. Its main and primary goal is to increase the capacity of the holy mosque. It is planned that after the reconstruction, the Al-Haram Mosque, including its inner and outer courtyards, will be able to simultaneously accommodate an additional 900,000 pilgrims. This step is aimed at meeting the growing demands of millions of believers arriving in Mecca from all over the world, making their pilgrimage more comfortable and safer.
The "King Salman's Gate" project is not limited to just the expansion of the mosque. It envisages the creation of a modern cluster that will include residential complexes, cultural centers, and developed infrastructure for the city's residents and guests. Special attention will be paid to the development of public transport, which will allow for easy and fast access to the holy site.
At the same time, the project emphasizes the preservation of Islamic heritage. In parallel with modern construction, it is planned to restore historical buildings with a total area of 19,000 square meters, ensuring that the spiritual and historical spirit of Mecca is not lost during modernization.
This large-scale initiative is one of the most important components of the "Vision 2030" national strategy. It also has significant economic goals. It is expected that by 2036, the implementation of the project will create about 300,000 new jobs. And thanks to the improved infrastructure, the goal is to increase the annual number of pilgrims to 30 million, strengthening Mecca's role as a global spiritual center.
