Sanae Takaichi to Be Japan's First Female PM

Japan stands on the cusp of a historic turning point. As reported by Reuters, 64-year-old Sanae Takaichi has been elected leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, set to become the country's first female prime minister. This appointment not only breaks long-standing political traditions but also signals potential sharp changes in Tokyo's domestic and foreign policy.
Sanae Takaichi is known for her "hawkish" and nationalist views.
One of her main goals is to revise Japan's post-war pacifist constitution. This constitution, adopted after the defeat in World War II, significantly limits the country's military capabilities. Takaichi's initiative could lead to a radical change in Japan's defense doctrine and an expansion of the role of its armed forces.
In foreign policy, Takaichi also holds a tough stance. She openly supports the idea of creating a "quasi-alliance in security" with Taiwan. This move is seen as a direct challenge to China and could seriously escalate the situation in the region.
Thus, Sanae Takaichi's election is not only a symbolic event from the perspective of gender equality but also signals the likelihood of Japan transitioning to a more assertive and militarized foreign policy.
