Rutte: NATO Ready to Act, But Saw No Immediate Threat

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has stated that the alliance did not observe an immediate threat during the incident of the possible incursion of Russian fighters into Estonian airspace.

"There was no need to shoot down the MiG planes. But if necessary, we will do what is necessary," noted Rutte.

He emphasized that NATO assesses situations on a case-by-case basis. "This does not mean that we will immediately shoot down any aircraft. First, we will analyze the situation."
