Rutte: If China Attacks Taiwan, Russia May Strike a NATO Country

The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte, has stated to The New York Times that if China decides to use force against Taiwan, then PRC leader Xi Jinping could ask Russian President Vladimir Putin to distract the attention of Europeans by attacking NATO territory.
According to Rutte, the probability of such a scenario is growing, and two steps are necessary to deter Beijing and Moscow. One of them is the strengthening of the alliance, "so that the Russians never attack," and the second is joint work with the Indo-Pacific region in the field of defense industry and innovations.
According to Rutte, NATO is facing a "huge geopolitical challenge," and that is primarily the Russian Federation. "They now produce three times more ammunition in three months than all NATO members do in a year," the alliance's Secretary General repeated.
