Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan to Create "Unimpeded" Corridor

During a trilateral high-level meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran confirmed their intention to create an "unimpeded" logistics corridor along the western route of the "North-South" international transport corridor. This ambitious project aims to eliminate all existing obstacles, ensuring the free movement of goods, services, and transport between the three countries.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, speaking at the meeting, presented impressive statistics that attest to the revitalization of the corridor.
According to the data of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, during the first half of 2025, 176,761 vehicles carrying out international freight transport crossed the Russian-Azerbaijani border section. "This is a 10% increase compared to the same period last year. The volume of cargo flow has increased by 13% and amounted to 680 million tons," Overchuk noted.
However, according to the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, joint, coordinated steps are necessary to maintain and develop this positive dynamic. He stressed that the further development of the western route of the "North-South" corridor requires joint work aimed at expanding "narrow passages" (sections that cause congestion) and eliminating all existing barriers. This implies not only the modernization of infrastructure but also the simplification of customs and border procedures.
The ultimate goal of the three countries is much more ambitious than simply solving logistical problems. "We have a very interesting work ahead of us, aimed at forming a common commodity market with unhindered logistics and harmonized rules," Overchuk announced. According to him, these steps will create the best competitive conditions for the producers and exporters of the three countries, contributing to economic growth and deepening regional integration.
