Russia Targets Ukrainian Rail Infrastructure in Overnight Strikes
2 OCT 2025 06:27
Ukraine has endured another difficult night, being subjected to massive attacks by Russian forces. The targets were the Odesa and Kyiv regions, as well as the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. The main target of the attacks was the country's critical infrastructure, particularly the railway, which is of vital importance for Ukraine's economy and army supply.
On the night of October 1-2, Russia subjected the depot of "Ukrzaliznytsia" (Ukrainian Railways) in Odesa to massive shelling. As a result of the attack, a train driver received shrapnel wounds. In addition to Odesa, dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles struck peaceful settlements in the Kyiv region.
The railway infrastructure of the border communities in the north of the country, in particular the city of Konotop, was also targeted. For security reasons, trains were temporarily stopped at a safe distance from the impact zone. In the morning, the power supply of the contact network was restored, and all trains resumed their traffic. However, as a result of the attack, some trains in the direction of Chernihiv and Sumy are running with delays. The Ukrainian side assures that all efforts are being made to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the country's transport arteries, even in the conditions of such massive attacks.
Ukrainian officials note that Russia is trying to destroy one of the foundations of Ukrainian resistance on a daily basis: the infrastructure that unites the country. This includes not only the railway, but also the roads and the energy system.
