Rubio, Lavrov Discuss Ukraine; Peace 'Not on Horizon'

US Senator Marco Rubio has stated that he discussed a new approach to settling the conflict in Ukraine with Lavrov and will tell Trump about it. The US official also made other statements after the meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister. The US is interested in a clear plan to end the conflict in Ukraine, Rubio noted.

The US will continue contacts with all parties to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, despite the "lack of progress" in peace talks, Rubio noted, adding that during the meeting with Russian representatives, the US heard proposals regarding Ukraine that had not been voiced before.

Nevertheless, Rubio himself does not believe in imminent peace. He stated that the US hopes to convince NATO allies to transfer some of their Patriot systems to Ukraine.
