On October 6, a telephone conversation took place between the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu. The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the situation in the Middle East. The focus of the telephone conversation was the plan put forward by the US President aimed at resolving the situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as the issues of Iran's nuclear program and stability in Syria.
Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Russia's unchanged position on the comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian problem, which should be based on the well-known principles of international law. The parties also exchanged views on other regional topics. In particular, mutual interest was expressed in finding negotiated solutions to the situation around Iran's nuclear program and towards further stabilization in Syria.
The telephone conversation also had a warm character, according to official sources in Moscow. On the occasion of Vladimir Putin's birthday the day before, the Prime Minister of Israel sent him his warmest wishes. In turn, the President of Russia congratulated Benjamin Netanyahu and the people of Israel on the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.
In the context of these discussions, the statements of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the country's military self-sufficiency are noteworthy. He emphasized that Israel can achieve military self-sufficiency, just as it once achieved economic independence. "Israel will be able to defend itself," Netanyahu noted.
