A phone conversation took place between the President of the Russian Federation, Putin, and the President of Turkey, Erdoğan, focusing on bilateral relations and the prospects for resolving the Ukrainian crisis, including in the context of the latest proposals from the American side.
As reported by the Kremlin press service, the leaders of the two countries exchanged views on the situation around Ukraine. Putin, referring to the American proposals for a peaceful settlement, noted that in the version the Russian side has seen, they are in line with the discussions at the Russian-American summit in Alaska.
According to Putin, these proposals "could in principle form the basis for a final peace settlement." He reaffirmed the Russian side's interest in finding a political-diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
In turn, President Erdoğan expressed his readiness to support the negotiation process in every possible way and reaffirmed his intention to once again provide the Istanbul platform for this purpose. The parties agreed to intensify Russian-Turkish contacts on the Ukrainian issue at various levels.
In addition to the Ukrainian topic, the presidents also discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the importance of further expanding trade and investment ties and implementing projects of strategic importance in the energy sector.
During the phone call, the President of Turkey also shared the results and impressions of his visit to the G20 summit in Johannesburg and his meetings with the leaders of a number of participating countries.
The leaders of the two countries agreed to continue to maintain regular contacts.
