Protests Held Near Russian Military Base in Gyumri

In Gyumri, near the Russian military base, a protest action by the "For the Republic" party took place on August 23. The activists demanded the withdrawal of the Russian military base from Armenia.

The party leader, Arman Babajanyan, stated during the protest that according to sociological survey results, 70% of Armenian citizens consider the presence of the Russian base a threat.

The "Mother Armenia" alliance had organized a counter-protest against the action announced by the "For the Republic" party to remove the Russian military base from Gyumri.

From the morning, the police cordoned off the Russian military base in several layers and did not allow "Mother Armenia" to carry out a protest near the entrance of the military base where the "For the Republic" party's protest was planned.

In support of the presence of the Russian military base in the RA, a peaceful gathering was also held near the Mother Armenia memorial complex.
