Powerful Cyclone Paralyzes Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula

11 NOV 2025 07:15
The Kamchatka Peninsula has been hit by a powerful cyclone, which has led to widespread chaos and paralyzed the normal life of the region. A storm warning has been declared, and there is a risk of avalanches in the southern regions of the peninsula.
As a result of the natural disaster, roads have turned into ice rinks. According to local residents, the strong gusts of wind are so powerful that they are even moving parked cars. Fallen trees have blocked a number of streets in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and floods have occurred in some areas, causing buses to get stuck in huge puddles.
Serious problems have also arisen in the electricity supply sector. Power lines swinging in the wind are touching the roofs of buildings, creating sparks and a fire hazard. Residents of the Leninsky district and Yelizovo have reported power and internet outages.
In the current situation, schools have canceled classes, and most enterprises have transferred employees to remote work.
The adverse weather has also paralyzed the airport's operations; flight cancellations and delays are being observed. Two planes that had taken off from Vladivostok in the morning were forced to return. Traffic police officers and heavy equipment are working on the streets, but cleaning efforts are complicated by cars parked on the roadsides.
