The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has sparked strong reactions after calling US President Donald Trump a "Russian or Soviet agent."

He made this statement during a lecture at one of the country's universities.

"The leader of the world's greatest superpower is, objectively, a Soviet or Russian agent. He acts as an agent," said Rebelo de Sousa, emphasizing that in his opinion, Washington is negotiating on the Ukraine conflict exclusively with Moscow, while Kyiv and Europe remain outside the main agreements.

Trump is acting in Russia's interests, said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
