Police Guard: What Mission Was It Created For?

Since November 1, a new structure has been created in Armenia, the Police Guard, which has replaced the former Police Troops. According to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, this is a completely new service, not a continuation of the old one. The purpose of the Guard is to protect the citizen through the state, and its activities are regulated by new standards corresponding to international criteria. Similar models also operate in other countries: for example, the Gendarmerie of France, the Carabinieri of Italy, and the Civil Guard of Spain combine police and military functions, operating under civilian control.
