Pashinyan, PACE President Discuss Washington Agreements

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Theodoros Rousopoulos, at the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg. The Prime Minister was greeted at the entrance by the PACE President and the Secretary General of PACE, Despina Chatzivassiliou, after which Nikol Pashinyan made an entry in the "Golden Book" of the PACE President and took a short tour. The Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia reports that during the meeting, the cooperation agenda between the Republic of Armenia and the Council of Europe was discussed, emphasizing the reforms being implemented in the direction of developing democratic institutions, protecting human rights, and strengthening the rule of law.
Nikol Pashinyan stressed the Armenian government's readiness to continue effective cooperation with CoE structures. The parties also touched upon the procedural ties formed with PACE, as well as cooperation in monitoring formats. The interlocutors emphasized that the deepening of the Armenia-Council of Europe partnership is important for both institutional resilience and the integration processes with the European legal space.
Reference was made to the agenda of the current PACE session. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia thanked President Rousopoulos for the high-level hospitality and constant support, emphasizing that Armenia appreciates the role of the Council of Europe in promoting the peace agenda in the region, protecting fundamental freedoms, and increasing the efficiency of the judicial system.
The parties reaffirmed their readiness to continue the dialogue and expand practical cooperation. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the President of PACE exchanged views on regional and international issues.
The interlocutors highlighted the initialing of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on August 8 and expressed confidence that the establishment of peace will give a new and significant impetus to the development of cooperation and ensuring stability in the region.
