A powerful explosion rocked the city of Quetta, the administrative center of Pakistan's Balochistan province, immediately followed by an intense firefight. The incident resulted in the deaths of at least eight people, including three members of the security forces.
The incident occurred on one of the city's central streets, Zarghoon Road, where a number of important facilities are located. According to preliminary police data, the explosion was so powerful that the shockwave blew out the windows and doors of adjacent buildings, causing significant material damage.
According to eyewitnesses, a fierce firefight began in the area immediately after the explosion, which indicates the coordinated nature of the attack. Numerous units of security forces, police, and rescue service personnel arrived at the scene. Law enforcement officers cordoned off the entire area to conduct investigative actions and prevent possible new attacks.
Among the victims of the attack are three members of the Frontier Corps forces. It is noteworthy that the explosion occurred in the immediate vicinity of a facility guarded by local security forces, which strengthens the theory that the target of the attack was the security structures themselves.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, on the instruction of the provincial health minister, a state of emergency has been declared in all hospitals in Quetta city to provide necessary medical assistance to the wounded. At this time, law enforcement agencies are clarifying the causes and circumstances of the incident. No group has yet claimed responsibility for what happened.
