The possible presence of non-regional players in the South Caucasus is concerning, there is a fear. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The Moscow representative fears that the presence of new players will disrupt the balance in the region.
"It is impossible not to say that there is concern about the possible presence of non-regional representatives in the South Caucasus. There is a fear that such a presence will disrupt the established balance in this very fragile region," Overchuk said at the Eastern Economic Forum, answering the question of whether there are risks for Russia related to the prospect of transferring control of the so-called "Zangezur corridor" to the US for a period of 99 years.
