Over 1,000 Footballers Banned in Turkish Betting Scandal
11 NOV 2025 09:20
A football scandal in Turkey. More than a thousand players from various football divisions in that country have been suspended for placing bets. 27 of them play in the Süper Lig. Only one of the players banned from football activities is not a representative of Turkey. The championships of the second and third leagues are now suspended, as many teams are unable to field a squad. The Turkish Football Federation has asked FIFA for an additional transfer window to fill the gap.
As a reminder, earlier in Turkey, 17 referees and 2 club presidents were arrested for match-fixing and betting, and another 149 referees were suspended from the sport.
