The main part of the latest fire that broke out at the Nubarashen landfill on the night of October 10 has been extinguished, but some pockets remain active. Work to eliminate the consequences of the fire continues in the landfill area. As reported to ArmeniaSputnik by the Yerevan Municipality, as of the morning of October 11, there is no open fire in the area, but separate pockets of the fire continue to smolder, releasing toxic substances into the air. "Work on the ground continues, at the moment 20 units of equipment are covering the smoldering pockets with soil," the municipality detailed.
Given the potential health risks from the spread of smoke, "Ambulance" CJSC has established a special watch. The company's director, Ruben Grigoryan, reported that so far, no calls related to smoke inhalation have been registered. However, they are continuing the watch in any case.
It should be recalled that on October 10, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced that the recent fire at the Nubarashen landfill was the result of arson. He promised that the culprits would be found and punished. To avoid such situations, the municipality will strengthen control over the landfill area.
