Nubarashen Landfill Fire Was Deliberate, Says Mayor Avinyan

The fire that broke out at the Nubarashen landfill during the night has been completely extinguished. However, work to neutralize smoldering spots in separate areas continues in the morning hours.

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan informed that the rescue service and the relevant departments of the Yerevan Municipality worked at the scene all night. The mayor added that the incident was not accidental, but a deliberate fire.

"I spoke with the Director of the NSS and the Minister of Internal Affairs. Anyone involved in the fire will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law," noted Avinyan.

As a result of the fire, serious risks have been created from the perspective of community and environmental safety. Against this background, control over entry to and exit from the landfill area has been tightened, and additional security measures are being applied to exclude the recurrence of such cases.

A corresponding investigation is underway to clarify the details of the incident.
