The area of the oil product spill in the Black Sea resulting from a leak near Novorossiysk, according to the latest data, is about 350 sq. km.
The minimum estimate of the volume of the oil product exceeds 10 tons. Sergey Stanichny, a remote sensing specialist collaborating with Morspassluzhba, told TASS about this.
"According to current photos, the area is already 350 sq. km. In my practice, such an extensive film pollution in the sea has not been observed. The slick is moving towards Crimea, but for now, it is passing south of the Kerch Strait," Stanichny said.
It should be recalled that on August 29, during loading operations with a tanker in the water area of the Novorossiysk seaport, an oil product leak was registered.
A representative of the emergency services told TASS that the oil product leak, according to preliminary data, refers to light oil products, which reduces the severity of the consequences for the environment.
