There are incomprehensible moments in the Washington document that have been discussed, and there are incomprehensible moments that have not been discussed, said Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani at a press conference. At the same time, he noted that the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is something "we have always supported and now welcome."
"In the days when our countries needed each other, we supported each other and gave real meaning to the good-neighborly policy."
With these words, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, summarized the significant achievements in the relations between the two countries during his tenure at his farewell press conference on September 26.
The Ambassador stressed that over the past years, when the region and relations were in a state of high sensitivity, the parties managed to raise political cooperation to an even higher level thanks to mutual understanding.
Mehdi Sobhani reaffirmed Iran's principled position, emphasizing that Tehran has always expressed its determination to support Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"Iran has spoken out about the inviolability of borders, as well as the inadmissibility of geopolitical changes in the region, and will continue to stand by this position," the diplomat noted.
Impressive results have been recorded in the economic sphere. According to the Ambassador, trade turnover between the two countries is constantly growing and, according to official statistics, will cross the $900 million threshold this year.
Strategic projects in the energy sector were particularly highlighted. The "gas for electricity" agreement has been successfully extended until 2030. Great momentum has been given to the construction of the third high-voltage power transmission line, which is already in its final stage with 92% progress. In addition, within the framework of the "North-South" corridor, construction work on the Agarak-Kajaran road section has begun, where significant progress has been recorded.
"I declare that we will complete this project ahead of schedule," the Ambassador assured.
Mehdi Sobhani also emphasized the strengthening of cultural and educational ties. According to him, they have managed to promote the spread of the Persian language in Armenia, which he described as "the language of peace, civility, kindness, and friendship."
Summarizing his speech, the Ambassador stressed: "Today, it can be confidently said that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia are partners, neighbors, and true friends." The symbol of this friendship, according to him, is reflected in the Orders of Friendship and Honor awarded to him by the President and the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. "The train of progress of our relations is always moving, and no force can stop it or divert it from its path," concluded the Ambassador, who is completing his mission in Armenia.
